VI: Classic

The Bayou Academy Lady Colts were in the "spotlight" yesterday after winning their sixth consecutive state title.

It only seemed fitting that the Bayou Academy Lady Colts would win their sixth consecutive State Softball Championship Title in Flowood Monday playing on field number 6.

The Lady Colts defeated Union Christian in game one 15-1 and won game two 14-0 versus Franklin Academy, earning another opportunity to hoist the trophy for the sixth year in a row.

Head coach Lauren LaSuzzo just kept repeating when parents, fans and reporters asked her how she felt about the sixth win, "I am just so proud of my girls, I am just so proud of my girls!"

After the trophy presentation, Taylor Hackney, Lauren Bailey, Ashley Vickers, Carley Peden and Shelby Newsom were named to the All Tournament Team.

Tradition has it that the Lady Colt seniors name each state championship title:
2006 — I was named Awesome.
2007 — II was named Back-to-Back.
2008 — III was named Three-Peat.
2009 — IV was named Dynasty.
2010 — V was named Legend.

Seniors Bailey and Hackney came up with a very fitting name for VI: CLASSIC.

Delta State Baseball to Host Biannual Reunion October 7-8 at Ferriss Field

Delta State University baseball alumni will converge on Dave "Boo" Ferriss Field Friday and Saturday, Oct. 7-8 for the Biannual Statesmen Baseball Reunion. The two-day event will feature food, fun, and activities for all former players, coaches, and managers.

"We really enjoy putting on this event every two years, and it gives us a real opportunity to stay in contact with all our former players, coaches, and staff that have helped make this program what it is today," stated coach Kinnison. “We hope we can have all our professional players back on campus again this year and the event should be another great opportunity for our program to fellowship and come back to campus."

The reunion starts Friday at 12:45 p.m. with a golf tournament at the Derrall Foreman Golf Course. It continues at 6:30 p.m. with the game one of the Green & White Fall Series.

Saturday's festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. with a luncheon followed by alumni introductions and recognitions at 1:30 p.m. inside Ferriss Field. The annual Alumni Game is set for 2 p.m. The weekend will culminate at 4:30 p.m. with a family barbeque adjacent to Ferriss Field.
