Causey To Be Named Cleveland's Head Coach

Cleveland High School has a new head football coach. According to reports, Cleveland native Kelley Causey will be introduced as the head coach of Cleveland Tuesday. Causey is expected to be announced as leader of the Wildcats at today's school board meeting.

Causey left his post at Grenada High School to return to his alma mater. Previously, he held positions at Pass Christian Academy, St. Martin High School and other schools along the coast, before and after Hurricane Katrina.

After his high schools days at Cleveland, Causey went on to play football at Delta State for a year before transferring to Mississippi Delta and Arkansas State.

Causey takes over a Wildcat football team that finished 5-8 last year and will be the third head coach players have seen since last April. Last spring, Greg Robinson resigned as head coach and was replaced by former Delta State All-American Scott Eyster, whose one and only season ended amidst a cloud of controversy.

The anticipated hiring of Causey ends a nearly three-month search for a new head coach.

Bulldogs Travel To Florida For NCAA Super Regional

MSU junior Caleb Reed earned his 12th save on the mound this past weekend at the NCAA Regional tournament in Atlanta. Reed struck out four batters in three innings of work and allowed just three hits.

Mississippi State will play the opening game of the 2011 NCAA Super Regionals Friday when the Bulldogs (37-23) take on No. 2 national seed Florida (48-16) in an 11 a.m. (CDT) contest at Florida's McKethan Stadium.

The NCAA announced the game times and dates for the eight Super Regionals early Tuesday morning following California's late-night come-from-behind win over Baylor in the championship game of the Houston Regional. It is somewhat familiar postseason scheduling for MSU, which opened the 2007 NCAA Super Regionals with nationally-televised 11 a.m. Super Regional games against Clemson at Dudy Noble Field.

State and Florida will also play at 11 a.m. (CDT) Saturday, and start time for Sunday's "if necessary" game has been set for 12 p.m. (CDT).

The eight Super Regional winners advance to the 65th NCAA College World Series, which begins June 18 at the new T.D. Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb.

Friday's Super Regional opener will be televised by ESPN2, while ESPN will broadcast the remaining games of the event.

Mississippi State earned its fourth NCAA Super Regional berth last weekend by sweeping to wins over Southern Miss (3-0), Austin Peay (8-3), and ninth-ranked Georgia Tech (7-3) in the NCAA Atlanta Regional.

Cleveland-native Caleb Reed played a pivotal role in the Bulldogs' 3-0 victory over Southern Miss, earning his 12th save of the season. Reed pitched three innings and gave up just four hits with one walk and four strikeouts. The former Bayou Academy all-star is just one save short of tying MSU's single-season saves record, held by both Scott Tanksley and Van Johnson with 13.
