Rotary Club Ambassadorial Scholarships Now Available
Applications for the 2011-2012 Ambassadorial Scholarships are now available from Rotary Districts 6800. These scholarships, which are designed to further international understanding and goodwill, provide for study abroad for one year in one of the 162 countries and 35 geographical regions where Rotary Clubs are located. For more information on these scholarships please contact Rotarian Walter Wallace at 662-846-1645. For information and to print an application visit the website www.rotary.org/.
Applications made to the Cleveland Rotary Club have a deadline of April 1, 2011. Required in-person interviews will be held by Rotary District officials in late May 2011. Over 1200 scholarships will be available from clubs worldwide. Local Rotary District 6800 offers two scholarship each year. Applicants are required to be fluent in the language of the country where they expect to study and they must have completed at least two years of undergraduate study.
During their studies abroad, Ambassadorial Scholars act as "ambassadors of goodwill". Through appearances before Rotary Clubs and districts, schools, civic organization and other forums, the scholars represent their homelands and work to further international understanding.
Ambassadorial Scholarships provide funding for round-trip transportation, tuition and fees, room, board, necessary educational supplies up to a maximum of $25,000 or its equivalent. Upon returning home, scholars share with Rotarians and others the experiences that led to a greater understanding of their host country.
The Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships Program is the world's largest privately sponsored international scholarship program. Some $320 million has been spent on 30,000 international scholarships since the inception of the program in 1947. The Cleveland Rotary Club encourages all area students who might have an interest to make application.
The Cleveland Rotary Club meets at the Cleveland Country Club every Wednesday at noon.
