Pig Pickin' Coming September 20 |
Cleveland,
MS - Delta State University's Alumni Association hosts their annual
Pig Pickin' Barbecue September 20 in Shumate Park. Serving lines
will be open 3:30-6 p.m. The meal includes barbecue pork or chicken,
beans, potato salad, slaw, bread, and drink. Tickets are $8 for
adults, $5 for children and DSU students with proper identification.
Tickets may be purchased at the Hugh Ellis Walker Alumni/Foundation
House, 1003 West Sunflower Road.
"Pig Pickin' kicks off the year for us," said Alumni Director,
Missy Pearce. Pearce adds that Pig Pickin' brings old and new faces
to campus."Alumni, current students and those exploring Delta
State have a relaxing way to mingle, and we always have a good crowd."
Pig Pickin' is held in conjunction with Enrollment Services' Delta
Focus Day for future students and an early season home football
game, the Statesmen battling Valdosta State at 7 p.m.

on the Future: Delta Focus Day

MS - Delta State University invites future students to attend Delta
Focus Day Saturday, September 20. Registration begins at 1 p.m.,
activities continue through 7 p.m.
"Delta Focus Day gives us some important one-on-one time with
future students," says Kristi Pantin, Coordinator of Student
Development. "We spend the afternoon showing them what life
at Delta State includes. Delta Focus Day is DSU 101. It's the perfect
way to get aquainted with campus, other students, alumni, and college
in general."
Visitors must register in the first floor lobby of the H.L. Nowell
Union Building, beginning at 1 p.m. The program gets underway with
an official welcome and entertainment at 1:30 p.m. An academic and
student services fair at 2:30 p.m., followed by campus tours at
3:30 p.m. Visitors are invited to attend Delta State University's
Alumni Association's Annual Pig Pickin' at 4:30 p.m. This barbecue
brings alumni and friends to campus and gives those attending Delta
Focus Day the opportunity to mingle prior to the evening football
game. Delta Focus Day concludes at Travis E. Parker Field when the
Statesmen football team battles Valdosta State at 7 p.m. |
| Noonan
presented with
"Distinguished Civilian Service Award" |
Cleveland,
MS - At a ceremony held on 20 June at Ft. Myer, Virginia,
overlooking Arlington Cemetery and the Pentagon, Diane Lindsey
Noonan was presented the "Distinguished Civilian Service
Award" by the Chief of Staff of the Army. She received
the award "for distinguished civilian service to the
United States Army." The Award was established by directive
of the Secretary of the Army in May, 1956 and is awarded
to civilians who provide distinguished service that makes
a substantial contribution to the accomplishment of the
Army. The award consists of a gold medal, lapel button and
a certificate. Diane is the wife of Lt. General Bob Noonan
who recently retired as Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence
for the Army.
Diane, formerly of Boyle and Cleveland, Miss., is a 1967
graduate of Delta State University. She is the daughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs. K. J. Lindsey of Cleveland. For
35 years, Diane contributed significantly to both the Army
and the nation not only through her work on behalf of soldiers
and their families, but also through her representation
of the Army and the United States in the foreign liaison
community, both at home and abroad.
