Linda Bassie and Ronnie Wise prepare for the
annual sale and auction
|
The
Friends of the Bolivar County Library System is pleased to announce
its annual book sale and silent auction which began this past Thursday,
and runs until Saturday at 5:00pm at the Public Library on Court Street.
This year's event should prove to be bigger and better than ever says
Ronnie Wise, Director of the Bolivar County Library System. In addition
to an extensive selection of books, the sale will also feature a large
variety of videos, DVD's, and a host of other materials for purchase.
Aside from the sale, there will be a silent auction which will include
a multitude of Hollywood related items including numerous signed scripts
from television shows and films, as well as photos, sports items,
and even two full-size card catalogs. "We were very fortunate
to have some contacts in Hollywood who provided us with some of the
more interesting items," Wise says.
"Without the Friends organization we would not have been able
to do many of the projects that benefit Bolivar County," says
Wise, "We are very grateful for the support they lend us."
All proceeds from the event are used to aid the Libraries in Bolivar
County, and Wise says a good portion of the money shoutld be used
to furnish the new Library to be located inside the Depot. For more
information on the sale and auction the Library can be reached at
843-2774. |

Good
earth Gardens in Cleveland
Good Earth Gardens, located on the corner of Court and Bolivar
next door to the Bean Counter, is one of the more unique
business ventures in Cleveland. Beth Crowe, owner of Good
Earth Gardens, says she decided to open the business when
she returned to Cleveland following her husband's occupation.
Crowe, who formerly worked for Garden Works in Jackson,
says she has always enjoyed growing and nurturing plants.
"I actually have a degree in Psychology," she
smiles, "but I went to Garden Works because this is
what I truly enjoy doing. I learned a great deal while I
was there," she says. Crowe also adds that all of the
plants she keeps in stock are shipped or picked up from
Garden Works. "They are from the Rising Sun growers
portion," she explains.

"I
try to keep a good selection of hard to find perennials,"
says Crowe in reference to her inventory. "People also
look for Medallion Winners and other hearty plants that fair
well in our southern climate."
One more unique aspect of the business is its seasonal nature.
"Generally we open following the last frost and close
about a week after Mother's Day," says Crowe. Crowe also
says that her location has played a key role in the success
of her business. Good Earth Gardens is open Monday through
Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information
Crowe can be reached at 662-402-8247.
