| Planter’s
Bank and Trust Co. new office building scheduled to open in August
|
Planter’s
Bank and Trust Co. is on target with their progress in building
the new branch on Highway 61. The 6,000 square foot building is
located on a 1 1/4-acre lot in front of Kroger. Some of the assets
to the new building will consist of three drive-through windows
that are equipped with two-way vat video systems which will allow
the customer to see the teller he/she is talking to through the
video, as well as an ATM machine.
Mark Hargett, Branch Manager, said the bank has basically out
grown the old building. “There is just no room for us to
grow in this building anymore,” Hargett said. “The
new building is in a better location and will give us better exposure
as well as having much more room.”
Some other reasons for the move are the limited parking and cramped
access to the one drive-through window. The new building will
open by the end of August.

Mayor
Martin T. King declares "Keep Cleveland Beautiful" Week
"Keep Cleveland Beautiful" slated for, April 27 - May
3, is a week of encouragement to clean up the city in conjunction
with the Great American Cleanup and Bolivar Earth Day on Saturday,
May 3. Cleveland residents are encouraged to clean and beautify
his/her property. The old Color Tile building, the site of Bolivar
Earth Day, is the sight where all hazardous waste, such as cleaners,
chemicals, motor oil, antifreeze, poisons, paints, etc can be disposed
of. Residents will also be able to bring other items that the local
garbage service will not pick up. Also residents are urged to throw
away anything in yards that is a potential breeding ground for mosquitoes,
like those items that may hold water because of the potentially
dangerous West Nile virus. Businesses and homeowners alike are encouraged
to plant a tree, flowers or anything else that will beautify the
city. |

Bottling 5K Run/Walk |
The
popular Nehi Bottling 5K Run/Walk is again winding its way through
Cleveland at the 34th annual Crosstie Arts and Jazz Festival.
Once again under the watchful eyes of Boy Scout Troop 4420, the
race will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the corner of South Court and
North Victoria and will end at the finish line at the southwest
corner of the festival. Registration will be held from 7:30 a.m.
to 8:15 a.m. at the corner of South Court and Bolivar. Pre-registration
fees are $10.00 and registration on the day of the race will be
$12.00. As an added incentive to register early, a special table
will be set up for those who have pre-registered. Scouts will
be prominently placed along the route to direct participants and
offer assistance as needed, and water will be available at the
halfway point to refresh those who are inclined to take a break
and enjoy the morning! Also, fruit and water will be available
to all participants at the end of the race.
Trophies
will be awarded to the overall winners of the Run division and
medals will be awarded to the top three in the following divisions:
Women's 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50 and over, and Men's 10-19,
20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50 and over. All participants will receive
commemorative T-shirts compliments of Nehi Bottling Company.
For
those inclined to take life a little slower, the 5K Walk is exactly
what is needed to begin a day filled with festival events. The 5K
Walk will follow the same route as the race but participants will
follow the course at their own pace. All participants in the Walk
division will receive special Nehi Bottling 5K ribbons with first,
second, and third place medals being given to the top three finishers
overall.
Winners
in both the Run and Walk divisions will be announced at 10:15 on
the main stage.
