Wilson offered to pay the $25,000 balance of Buchanan's training if he agreed to fly the new planes. "I've had to struggle to get where I am today," Wilson added. "When I met Lamar, I just couldn't say no to his need."
The pair was introduced by Wilson's daughter, Dallanie, who also saw a spark in Buchanan. She says, "I met Lamar by chance and knew he had to meet my father."

"I'll never be able to explain how it feels to know that my future is secure and that I don't have to worry about paying for my education," Buchanan said. "I have all the money and the supplies I need for completing my Flight Operations degree as well as a guaranteed job after I graduate. My dream of becoming a pilot will come true in only a few months thanks to Mr. Wilson and his family."

According to Tommy Sledge, chair of the Commercial Aviation Department at Delta State, flight students on average spend about $55,000 over four years while training to become a pilot. The total includes flight manuals, FAA exam fees, certification fees, and aircraft rental. After graduation, students also have to build up their flight experience before they are able to apply for a job. "Mr. Wilson's generosity will pay for Lamar to build up his flight hours without having to incur huge
amounts of debt," said Sledge. "We hope Mr. Wilson's gift inspires others to help needy and deserving students to earn their degree in Commercial Aviation at Delta State."

As for the future, Wilson hopes to help other struggling, aspiring pilots. "I think this is something I'd like to do annually," Wilson added.
