Delta
Blues Week features Jazz Singer,
Rene' Marie
|
The
2003-2004 Season for the Delta Symphony Association begins
with the annual Tribute to the Blues on Thursday, September
18th at Jake & Freda Stein Hall of Bass Cultural Center
beginning at 7:30 p.m.. Featured performer will be René
Marie, Jazz Singer. The human voice is the oldest, most
tried instrument in music. In jazz, vocalists tend to be
the most celebrated artists because they reach listeners
in ways players of other instruments can not. Though some
disparage vocalists because they make jazz easy to appreciate,
the truth is that great singers challenge the listener just
as much as any trumpeter, drummer, or guitarist. Vocalist
Rene' Marie is just such a maven. René is listed
on the top vocal CD list for 2001 and describes herself
as a vocalist, composer and musical risk-taker. Marie is
a self-taught jazz vocalist and has been compared to Ella
Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and Nancy Wilson-quite stunning
considering her musical path.
