The
Center for Southern Folklore's annual Memphis Music and Heritage
Festival has become a destination for music aficionados from around
the world, who make a pilgrimage to downtown Memphis every Labor
Day Weekend. And with good reason - the Center assembles the best
artists and musicians the South has to offer!
In
The Commercial Appeal music critic Bill Ellis wrote, “Something
special happens once a year. No, it’s not Santa Claus bearing
gifts, though for music fans it might as well be. It’s the
Memphis Music & Heritage Festival... a grand parade of the
best Memphis has to offer, where for three days our greatest gift
to the world— music— is writ symphoniously large.”
In
Shangri-la Records’ Kreature Komforts Sherman Wilmott writes,
“This is the real thing if you dig deep on Memphis Sounds...
If you are planning your visit around a music weekend in Memphis,
this would be the one to choose.”
Memphis
Magazine said of the Festival, “No other gathering celebrates
our own local and regional culture like the Center’s Memphis
Music & Heritage Festival.”
Most
importantly, the Memphis Music and Heritage Festival is free,
which truly makes it a festival for everyone – young and
old, rich and poor, native and foreign. So come help us celebrate
the men and women whose art and music make this region so special!
