| According
to Coopwood, many of the people profiled in the first edition
of the magazine attended the event as well as former Mississippi
Governor, Kirk Fordice. Lee and Pup McCarty, who appeared on the
debut cover, also attended.
"It always amazes me what Scott accomplishes with his publishing
ventures", said Fordice. "It is remarkable what he and
Jack have done with the Delta Business Journal and now with the
new magazine. I really like it (Delta Magazine) and I think that
it's going to be a huge asset for the Delta.
According to Coopwood, his publishing ventures now reach just
over 51,000 Deltans."
During
the event, Coopwood thanked everyone for attending and recognized
Melissa Townsend, the editor of Delta Magazine and Jack Criss,
executive editor.
"We are very fortunate to have Melissa on board with us as
the editor of the magazine," said Coopwood. "She has
been a great choice to lead the publication and she did a magnificent
job with the first issue. Well done, Melissa."
Coopwood
said that the strength of the magazine is the staff.
"We
have a great sales team on board with Sherri Atkins, Cristen Hemmins,
and Amy Taylor," said Coopwood. "They did an outstanding
job of getting out in the Delta and selling the first issue which
was pretty much selling a concept and an idea as we didn't have
an issue to put in the hands of advertising prospects. Also we
have got to salute Scott Speakes, Roy Meeks, and Charlie Godbold
for their beautiful photography. Our graphic designer Greg Pevey
produced an outstanding layout and design which is just as important
as the information inside of the magazine."
According to Coopwood, response from the debut issue was far more
than expected. All of the Delta stores carrying the magazine have
sold all of their copies three different times and Coopwood says
that they are in the middle of printing more issues.
"We
ordered another 8000 copies today from our printer in Olive Branch,"
says Coopwood. "We should have these copies distributed to
our stores in the Delta around the middle of the week."
Coopwood
says that a 90 day marketing campaign is currently underway primarily
using :30 tv spots that are airing on all of the local cable outlets
in the Delta as well as tv commercials aired during the news on
WABG and WXVT.
