| Cleveland
and the Warehouse win MS Mainstreet Awards |
The
Mississippi Mainstreet Association held their awards ceremony
on June 12 at the Hilton in Jackson. Ann Dilworth, Cleveland
Mainstreet Director, says Cleveland was presented with two
awards this year. The downtown Walking Trail was recognized
as Best Downtown Improvement and The Warehouse on Sharpe
Street received the Best Historic Preservation Project Award.
Dilworth says she entered the two projects into the competition
by sending in a narrative write-up along with photographs. |

Music at the Mounds June 21 at Winterville Mounds |

Celebrate
the first day of summer with free live music at Winterville
Mounds' Third Annual Music at the Mounds on Saturday, June
21, beginning at 11 am. The music festival will run through
the afternoon. Bluesman Mississippi Slim will headline,
and regional blues, country, folk, and gospel performers
will also play.
Festival goers are invited to bring chairs, blankets, picnic
lunches and enjoy the free event. There will be food and
crafts vendors on hand, and the Winterville Mounds Museum
will be open as well. The festival and museum is free and
open to the public.

Other artists slated to perform are Bronwynne Brent, folk;
Eden Brent, blues; Eddie Green and the Big G Band, blues;
Jay Kirgis, blues; James Partridge, country; Rosa Peppers,
gospel; Eddie Thomas, gospel; and Diane Vanlandingham, country.
Local musicians Donnie Brown and Charles Mason will provide
the sound system for the event, and all the performers are
donating their time.
Winterville Mounds Park is a National Historic Landmark
and is administered by the Mississippi Department of Archives
and History. Located at 2415 Highway 1 North, Greenville,
the park is open from sunup to sundown, and the museum is
open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and Sunday
from 1:30 to 5 p.m.

Wilson signs the contract for his second novel "Nor Gloom
of Night." This book, like the first, will be a mystery set
in the Mississippi Delta, available through bookstores, Amazon

Local Band "The Electric Mudd" Releases
New Album |
| Delta
band, The Electric Mudd, released their debut album "Call
It What You Will" on April 8, 2003. Brian Ware, guitar
player for The Electric Mudd and owner of Gumbo Music in
Cleveland, says, "The CD is selling really well."
He says the album has even sold internationally in Italy,
Germany, Japan, and Canada. Ware says the CD is available
through Amazon.com, CDBaby.com,Homegrownmusic.net, Gumbo
Music and at Electric Mudd concerts. The |

plays rock 'n roll with blues influences which they call
"swamp boogie." The 6-member band has been playing
together for 1 1/2 years. They are Brian Ware, guitar; Chuck
Davis, keyboards; David Burchfield, guitar; Jason Boyles,
drums; Jack McWilliams, percussion; and Nick Sosebee, bass
guitar. For a sample of the band's live sound, you can hear
them Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Greenwood Balloon Festival
or at The Pickled Okra in Cleveland on June 28. The Electric
Mudd will begin their Southeastern tour in August.
