Former Governor Fordice visits Cleveland
Mississippi's first Republican governor since Reconstruction, Kirk Fordice, has recently made several trips to Cleveland, arriving in his own twin engine plane. Fordice, who served as the state's highest elected official from 1992 to 2000, has spent time working with Delta Business Journal Executive Editor, Jack Criss, who is writing the authorized biography of the governor entitled Steel Will: The Life of Kirk Fordice. The two have know each other for many years.

According to Criss, the book is in the beginning stages but should be complete before the end of next summer. "It's a pleasure having the Governor and his wife, Ann, fly up to visit," Criss says. Fordice himself has remarked how much he enjoys the trips and what a great community Cleveland is. An accomplished pilot, Fordice plans to make more trips to Cleveland as work on the book progresses.

"We spend several hours together, primarily with me interviewing the governor about his life," Criss says. "When we're through working, Governor Fordice likes to see the local sights with his wife, and has told me that he truly loves the area."
