Cleveland set to host 20th
Annual Octoberfest
Cleveland is scheduled to celebrate the 20th annual
Octoberfest starting Friday, October 11th.
Octoberfest, which began as an Arts and Crafts
show in 1983, has blossomed into a full-fledged
festival complete with live music, a street
dance, BBQ, and even a custom car show. This
year, Octoberfest will boast over 120 arts
and crafts exhibitors, around 35 BBQ teams
competing in the Memphis in May sanctioned
BBQ contest, and a variety of activities for
children of all ages. There are several special
additions to this year's festival including
animals and trainers from Animal Planet (on
the Discovery channel), and a truck from Country
Music Television (CMT). With the many new
additions, as well as the tried and true favorites,
this year's Octoberfest is sure to be a blast.

."Military,
Media and the War on Terrorism" forum to be held
October 10th at DSU
In an event sponsored by the Project on Media and
Politics, a joint endeavor of the DSU Journalism Department
and the Madison Center, a variety of highly distinguished
panelists will discuss the roles of both the military
and the media as they pertain to the War on Terrorism.
Panelists will include members of the media and military
who served in times of war both past and present.
The event will address the tension between, as well
as ways to improve the relationship of the two. Other
topics of discussion will include how methods have
changed in light of the War on Terrorism, and how
coverage tactics have evolved from previous wartime
situations. The event, orchestrated by Warren Byrd,
Professor of Journalism at Delta State, and Garry
Jennings, Professor of Political Science, will take
place on October 10th, 7:30pm, at the Bologna Performing
Arts Center.

| D&PL Officials excited about new
cotton varieties
In a recent media event held at Delta and Pine Land Company's
headquarters in Scott, MS, officials of the company expressed
their enthusiasm about several new cotton varieties. At the
top of the list of these new varieties was DP 555 BG/RR, a stacked
gene variety capable of high yields that maintains a good fiber
quality. This variety, also known as "triple nickel,"
was released on a limited basis in 2002, and is expected to
be readily available for the 2003 season. Tom Kerby, V.P. Technical
Services for D&PL, says that 555 BG/RR should have a significant
impact on the industry and compares it to NuCOTN 33-B, which
introduced the Bollgard technology. On top of several new varieties
of cotton which are acclaimed for high yield and a good fiber
package, D&PL has updated their image for 2003, with new
bag colors for seed, and a revision to the company logo. For
more information and pictures of DP 555 BG/RR please visit the

over a year. XM, which is satellite radio with digital quality
sound, provides over 70 music channels with 30 that are 100%
commercial free. In addition to music, other channel options
include: CNN, Discovery, CNBC, ESPN, NASCAR, and many more.

coast to coast. For more information on how to have XM radio
installed in your vehicle, and to find out about any special
